A part of my collection of vases where I explore volume and clean geometry. The wide shoulders emphasised by the small neck and flanging mouth.
All of these vases become characters to me. This vase in black speckled white clay, glazed in translucent green makes me think of a Franciscan Monk with his eyes down making sure he doesn’t tread on any animals as he walks. The divot in the rim help give the vase personality and direction without any superfluous adornment.
