FAQs

Are all the pieces handmade

1

Yes. Every piece is made individually by hand, by me in Western Australia. Variations in form, glaze, texture and finish are part of the character of the work and no two pieces will ever be completely identical.

Will my piece look exactly like the photos?

2

I do my best to photograph pieces accurately, but handmade ceramics naturally vary slightly in colour, surface and form depending on firing conditions and glaze movement.

If a listing contains multiple available pieces of the same form, subtle differences between them should be expected.

Is it food safe?

3

Yes. All object made specifically for use with food are made using food-safe glazes and high-fired stoneware unless otherwise stated in the listing description. The predominant amount of my work is vases. These are not intended for use with food or drink.

Are they dishwasher and microwave safe?

4

Most pieces can safely go in the dishwasher, however hand washing is always recommended for handmade ceramics, especially delicate, sculptural or crackle-glazed work. Dishwasher detergents and repeated heat cycles can gradually wear glazes and increase the likelihood of chipping or staining over time.

Most functional stoneware pieces are microwave safe unless otherwise stated. Please avoid sudden temperature changes and take care when heating pieces for extended periods. Pieces containing metallic lustres or specialty finishes should not be microwaved.

Unglazed clay is naturally more porous than glazed surfaces and may gradually develop marks, oils or patina through handling and use over time. This is considered part of the character and ageing process of the piece.

To minimise staining:

  • Avoid prolonged contact with oils or strongly coloured liquids

  • Handle with clean hands where possible

  • Wipe gently with a damp cloth

Yes. International shipping is available to most countries.

Please note that customs duties, taxes or import fees may apply depending on your country and are the responsibility of the buyer.

Some works intentionally feature exposed clay surfaces or partially unglazed areas as part of the aesthetic and tactile quality of the piece. These raw surfaces highlight the materiality of the clay and the firing process itself.

Yes. Unglazed exterior surfaces are completely safe to handle and are commonly used in studio ceramics. Many pieces intentionally retain texture from the clay body, grog, carving or firing process. These tactile surfaces are part of the finished work and designed to emphasise the handmade nature of the object.

Where pieces are intended for food or drink use, the interior functional surfaces are glazed with food-safe finishes unless otherwise stated.

Unglazed ceramics can weather and age beautifully outdoors, however prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures or harsh conditions may increase the risk of cracking over time.

Please contact me within 48 hours of delivery with photographs of:

  • the damaged piece,

  • packaging,

  • and shipping label.

I pack all work extremely carefully, but if something arrives damaged I’ll always do my best to resolve the situation fairly.

Australian orders are generally dispatched within 3–7 business days.

International shipping times vary depending on destination country and customs processing.

You’ll receive tracking details once your order has been shipped.

Why are handmade ceramics more expensive than factory-made ceramics?

15

Unglazed vessels are fully vitrified during firing and will safely hold water, while others may slowly absorb moisture over time depending on the clay body and firing temperature.

If a piece is NOT watertight this will be noted in the product description. Some unglazed or partially unglazed ceramics can temporarily darken when exposed to moisture. This is a natural property of porous clay and usually fades as the piece dries.

Occasionally. You’re welcome to get in touch through the contact page, although availability varies depending on current studio workload and firing schedules.

The shop is updated periodically throughout the year in small batches.

Announcements for upcoming releases are usually shared through Instagram and the studio newsletter.

Each piece is individually made, trimmed, glazed, fired and packed by hand. Handmade ceramics involve significant time, material cost, kiln firings and unavoidable losses through testing and breakage.

You’re purchasing a unique object made slowly and intentionally — not a mass-produced product.
